The school employs a Leading Teacher with the exclusive role as Head of Teaching and Learning. Our Leading Teacher ensures that our students are taught to read and write based on the evidence provided in high-quality research. In reading, this means that all students are taught to be as literate as possible using a Systematic, Synthetic Phonics program (45 mins per day, 4 days per week), designed for our students. This is complemented with a writing system, which includes a Mentor Text in order to develop high-level writing skills, whilst working on student comprehension of text. Students access these systems of learning until they enter the senior school and begin applying these skills in ‘real-world’ and employment programs.

The school offers a Reading Guarantee that all students will be provided the best opportunity to be as fluent a reader as possible.
